Waiting for the Kingdom of God

What are you waiting for? We’re all waiting for something, yet if we think that we are waiting for God we are mistaken. The kingdom of God exists wherever God rules. Is your life surrendered to the rule and reign of God? If so, you will be an image of his kingdom…

20 Now having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God was coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; 21 nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”
Luke 17:20-21

The kingdom of God is in your midst. That’s it. The kingdom of God is not the future. It’s not the past. It’s now and forever. It doesn’t rely on a political party or a government. It doesn’t require a coup, yet it is an uprising.

The kingdom of God is an uprising of the presence of God and his life-giving abundance.

What are you waiting for? A miracle? For the world to change? For a friend? We’re all waiting for something, yet if we think that we are waiting for God we are mistaken.

God is here. Now.

The kingdom of God is here. Now.

In our midst. Among us. In us. Through us. When Jesus was speaking to the Samaritan woman at the well in John 4, he told her, “A time is coming and now is…” Now is. Now.

Jesus challenged people in Matthew 6 to seek first his kingdom and the things we are concerned about and the things we need will be taken care of. Seek first the kingdom. Find it. It is among us. So how do I see this kingdom?

The kingdom of God exists wherever God rules. Does he rule in your life? How about your family? Do you submit your children to him? How about your marriage? Your career? Your comings and goings? Your ideas? Your leisure time? Your darkest hour? Is your life surrendered to the rule and reign of God? If so, you will have no trouble finding the kingdom of God. You will be an image of it.

Rather than looking for a sign of the kingdom of God, start being the kingdom of God.

Amen.
