Joseph’s Dilemma

When Joseph found Mary to be with child, he had options.  What would you do?  I think I would be Joseph or worse.  And only through God’s help do we get to the place where we can respond in a godly manner which reflects his mercy and his plan…

18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.
Matthew 1:18-19

What would you do?  Would you keep it quiet?  Would you expose Mary to public disgrace?  I can see a few different reactions today.  Either hang her out to dry all the way to free love and roll with it…

The divine response was coming, yet not quite there yet.

Joseph was pondering his next steps, trying to balance his faith and his personal convictions.  Hmmm… isn’t that what we end up doing every day?

It is, and it’s very difficult, isn’t it?  Joseph is about to have an angelic intervention.  Sometimes I wish we had more of those.  It would make our dilemmas easier to solve.  It would help us align with God’s plan.  It would change our approach from the human to the divine…

I would be Joseph.
And I’m glad God intervenes.
