Greater Purpose: Point to Jesus

In order for Jesus to become greater in our lives, we must be all about the purpose of Jesus.  When we are on-mission, Jesus is illuminated in everything we do, rather than us.  Wherever God sends us, we are to point in humility to Jesus as the light of the world…

There was a man sent from God whose name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
John 1:6-8

He must become greater; I must become less.
John 3:30

When John came onto the scene, he was sent by God.  Sometimes that can go to people’s heads.  We have all met God’s messengers, haven’t we?  They are very clear in their minds about a lot of things, including their importance. The anointing of God can affect some people’s brain function if they aren’t humble; and if they aren’t clear on who’s who and what the purpose is…

John came as a witness to testify to the light. Witnesses testify. This is legal talk. In a court of law we call witnesses to tell us what they know, saw, and heard.  It’s all about the facts and not about the witness.

John is a witness to the light.  He is a witness to people regarding Jesus.  He was all about Jesus and sharing what he knew about the Lord.  In fact, one thing that is clear looking at the life of John is that John “himself was not the light.”  Interesting.

In order for Jesus to become greater and for us to become less, we must know and live like we are not the light.  I know, we are to let our lights shine and be salt and light in the world, yet we are not THE LIGHT.  We have the light in us.

Don’t let that confuse you.  Having the light doesn’t make us the light.  We are not the bee’s knees.  Our purpose is to point to the light.  Point to Jesus.

Make your life dedicated to pointing to the Lord, wherever God sends you.

Amen.
