Where is my power coming from today? Where is my wisdom coming from today? Go to the source. Ask the one who authors power and wisdom. God will give you wisdom when you ask. Take your eyes off you and put them on the giver of power and wisdom today…
12 Do you see a person wise in their own eyes?
There is more hope for a fool than for them.
7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil.
21 Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes
and clever in their own sight.
24 To those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
Are you feeling wise in your own eyes? I just made a presentation at work for something really important. I worked days on the presentation and rehearsed and honed and prepared well for the delivery. People said it went well. There is a temptation to focus my own attention (let alone others’) on my wisdom and skill. We ought to never go there.
God is completely in control of whether we will be successful with our work venture. God is completely in control of whether our personal plans succeed. And the day that we think that our own wisdom or knowledge or expertise is even material to God’s blessing, we find ourselves off side with God. That’s not to say we cannot be wise…
Remember Solomon was blessed by God with more wisdom than anyone, ever. Wisdom is worth pursuing. It’s the love of our own wisdom that makes us stumble. Why? Because it puts us in the position of idolizing ourselves. Any form of idolatry interferes with our humility before God.
Paul points this out so clearly in his description of Jesus as the power of God and the wisdom of God to us. We cannot be powerful and wise to ourselves if Jesus is our wisdom and power. And so we ought to ask ourselves, where is my power coming from today? Where is my wisdom coming from today?
Go to the source. Ask the one whose foolishness towers over our wisdom. God says (James 1:5) that he will give you wisdom when you ask.
Take your eyes off you and put them on the giver of power and wisdom today.
