It’s Time

Hosea has a simple message for us today: It is time to seek the Lord.  This is a better way to live, and it’s our choice.  It’s our decision today whether we seek God or stand in our own strength.  The outcome depends on our direction because we eat of the fruit we plant…

12 Sow righteousness for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes
and showers his righteousness on you.
13 But you have planted wickedness,
you have reaped evil,
you have eaten the fruit of deception.
Because you have depended on your own strength
and on your many warriors,
14 the roar of battle will rise against your people,
so that all your fortresses will be devastated…
Hosea 10:12-14

It’s time.  It’s time to seek the Lord.  This prophecy from Hosea’s time illustrates that some have planted wickedness and then reaped a harvest of evil.  When we live with a high tolerance for deception, we eat the fruit of our ways.

Hosea goes further to describe how the people of the time were depending on their own strength and the force of their warriors.  He warned that the roar of battle will rise against them and their fortresses will be devastated.  What if that happens to you?  If you have been depending on your own strength, what will happen if it all tumbles like Jenga pieces?

Proverbs 3:5-6 is often quoted as an encouragement for living:

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

This is what Hosea is saying to us: It is time to seek the Lord; sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground…

This is a better way to live, and we get to make the choice.

It’s our decision today whether we seek God or stand in our own strength.

Where do you stand today?

Amen.
