Founded On The Rock

Today we celebrate two of our favourite people.  As our son Mason and his love Joy marry, we learn from them what it means to be committed to the Lord Jesus and then to each other. Their marriage and their house is founded upon the Rock who is Jesus…

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-25 ESV

Mason and Joy get married today.  My son and my new daughter-in-law. After five years of preparation, they will join together as one.  Their lives are committed to the Lord Jesus and then to each other. And as I reflect upon their journey, I see two people who are building their house on the rock.

Their marriage is founded upon the Rock who is Jesus.

Each of them has been diligent in their individual relationships with the Lord to be healthy, committed, in true discipleship with their Saviour.  They have then been diligent to submit their relationship as a couple to the Lordship of Jesus. As the Lord speaks to them in his Word and through the Holy Spirit, they do what God says.  That’s what wise people do: they hear the words of Jesus, and then they do them.

What I see Mason and Joy doing in their lives and in their step into marriage is preparing them for the future.  Of course, they believe the future is all candles and bubble baths, romance and fulfillment.  That’s what we all believe the future of new marriage will be.  And let’s never lose that dream and desire for blessing. And still, let’s remember that the Lord Jesus promised us in John 16:33: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

And this is why it is so critical for them to do what they have done.  To place your life in God’s hands – to place your marriage in God’s hands – and then to do what you hear God say – this is what sets you up for real life.

When the rain falls,
When the floods come,
When the winds blow,
When these things beat on that house,
It will not fall,
Why?
Because it has been founded on the rock.
Founded on the Rock.

Be strong and courageous as you enter your marriage, Mason and Joy.  Continue to be doers of the words of Jesus in your lives.

You are founding your house on the Rock.  Be strong in the Lord and the strength of his might (Ephesians 6:10).

May God bless you with deep love,
May He be the source of your true joy,
May He take you on crazy adventures,
And may he establish the work of your hands (Psalm 90:17),
Together in your love and your service to him.

Much love and Amen,

Dad & Mom
