Sabbath at Sea Steps of Faith

When was the last time you stopped for recentering with the Lord? You will find he speaks to you of purpose and mission. Sometimes God puts it in your heart to befriend certain people at certain times for certain purposes. Maybe for you or them. Always for him…

I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
Philippians 3:12

A man who has friends must himself be friendly…
Proverbs 18:24

On our 6th day on our cruise, we had a sea day, in which there was no port to visit. So we had no plans. No port of call. No need to be anywhere. This was a welcome sabbath for us. Lucy sat and soaked up the Mediterranean sun and I walked around the ship (730 steps per lap). There I fell into needed prayer about purpose and people I care about.

When was the last time you stopped for recentering with the Lord?

One of the things I heard from God related to this nice couple we met. There was something drawing us to them. I believe it was the Lord. We had spoken to them once previously on deck and this day, we were able to sit with them again. We were on a different part of the deck, yet our neighbour was not being very neighbourly. When they appeared with two seats beside them, we moved immediately to be with them.

They welcomed us readily and we continued to get to know them. It will be interesting to see what God has in mind as we get to know them more. We invited them to join us for a tour in Croatia and they came with us. Sometimes God puts it in your heart to befriend certain people at certain times for certain purposes. Maybe for you. Maybe for them. Maybe for both. Always for him…

As I was walking around the ship that morning I asked God what he was doing with this couple. By the end of the day his answer is unclear, yet one thing was clear. God wanted us to step in.  As we got to know them, I could see that God wanted to bless us with the joy of meeting people from across the world and sharing joy and laughter. We laughed and laughed and laughed. We were creating a bond of friendship that warms the soul.

Do you need to move? To step in? Is there someone God has in mind for you to get to know? Likely you won’t get anywhere without actually making a move. It starts with personal reflection and meeting with the Lord. Then steps of faith to find out what God is doing. Remember, he was there before you and you may be simply joining him in his work.

Join him. Step in.

Amen.
