Faithful One

God is not like us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful. When we continually and consistently fall down in our faithfulness, God remains faithful. It is who he is. Let us be inspired by our Lord and pursue his faithfulness always to embody it in our own lives…

Many claim to have unfailing love,
but a faithful person who can find?
Proverbs 20:6

But I trust in your unfailing love;
my heart rejoices in your salvation.
Psalm 13:5

If we are unfaithful,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot deny who he is.
2Timothy 2:13

We like to believe that our allegiance is bullet-proof. Just like the Apostle Peter who claimed he would never betray the Lord Jesus, we believe we will stand resilient. Until we fall.

Many claim unfailing love, but where are all the faithful people? We might even have the gall to think that we are the only faithful people left. As we look at others we see their unfaithfulness, while we look at ourselves and puff out our chests as the faithful ones.

God knows. God knows better. God expects us to be faithful and desires for us to be faithful, yet he knows we will be unfaithful. Our human condition is sinful. We struggle against the wind to always stand for Jesus.

So who is faithful? God is. God is always faithful. That is who he is. The faithful one. If you look through the Old Testament, you will find that God cannot be separated from his identity as the one who embodies faithfulness.

We can trust in God’s unfailing love at all times. When the world is rocked or unstable or turning too fast, God’s unfailing love is our rock and salvation. We can stand upon it and set our clocks by it and be strengthened within it.

And as we consider our own faithfulness, and realize in our heart of hearts that we are not unfailing in our love, we see that God is not like us. If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful.

When we continually and consistently fall down in our faithfulness, God remains faithful. It is who he is. We ought to be more like him. We ought to continue to press into faithfulness. We can pursue the unfailing love of God as our own, yet remember that we may fail while he will never fail.

We will trust in your unfailing love, God…

Amen.
