All the glory of the Father, all the power, all the authority, and all the promise we are looking for is in Jesus. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life, and he calls us into relationship with him and will lead us to heaven. He is preparing a place for you.
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me…”
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Is Jesus your way? Do you look to Jesus for truth? Is your life found in Jesus? If we are looking for a place in heaven with God, and if we have the same questions as the disciples here, Jesus is our answer.
Notice that. We can look to Jesus for answers, yet it is also true that Jesus is the answer. We often look to find the way in our lives. We know where we are trying to go, yet we don’t know the way. Although he didn’t know where heaven is, Thomas asked, “How can we know the way?” How can we know the way to the place where you are going, Jesus?
I am the way. You don’t need any further directions or a road map, Thomas. I am the way. What I say is true because I am the truth. Life now and in heaven is found in me because I am the life.
I am the answer. Jesus wants each of us to know this. Jesus is the answer.
This isn’t enough for many people. It wasn’t enough for Philip, either. If we are talking heaven where the Father is, then let’s get to the point, Jesus. “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.” The answer? Jesus is enough.
In fact, if we know Jesus we know the Father as well and have seen him through Jesus. He answered Philip, “I am in the Father and the Father is in me.” All the glory of the Father, all the power, all the authority, and all the promise we are looking for is in Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.
Is Jesus your way? Do you look to Jesus for truth? Is your life found in Jesus? He calls you into relationship with him and will lead you to heaven…
